Packed Distillation Column
Distillation is a concept frequently used through out human history, one of the earliest applications was for alcohol production. In this experiment you will have the opportunity to explore the operation of a pilot scale packed distillation column. A distillation column like this one is used to separate two liquid components through vapour-liquid equilibrium.
Vapour-liquid equilibrium, in our case binary equilibrium, is used to separate two components based on their thermodynamic properties of bubble points and dew points.
The most common type of equipment that you will work with in this experiment is valve. Valves may seem simple, but they are one of the most important process equipment in a process. There are multiple types of valves in this experiment alone.
